Whoa. Today I refused to deal with a slumlord. Got my keys today and ended up leaving with my check still in hand because I was sharply denied a reasonably clean unit by the owner Alan Wofsy himself, because he said he only rents "low maintenance tenants." Despicable. The furniture in the unit had to remain, fine great. I saw that the desk chair was mold stained and sold, not work more than a few dollars on craigslist at best. Even if I had cleaner it, the stains would still be there. The futon cover was clearly soiled and white speckled. The rest of the unit looked good to me. I kindly asked Alan if the futon cover could be wsshed, and alerted him to the condition of the chair, which I said should probably be tossed or replaced because it was badly stained. To this he said if I was already complaining he'd give me my money back. I said I was a good tenant I was not complaoning, just wanted the soiled furniture to be cleaned it was an easy fix. That's when he made the final comment that he would give me back my check because he only rents to "low maintenance tenants." His exact words. Beware.
